4x4 Training - Courses Offered
The need for off-road driving training has only been recognized as a real necessity in recent years. Though these vehicles have been in use by a growing number of public, military, and private users, the dangers of treating this highly-specialized mode of transport as ordinary road transport have been amply demonstrated by the great number of accidents and even deaths.
However, Bala 4x4 not only offers formal training, but also less formal courses for the casual driver. The following are our standard courses:
- 4x4 Professional Off Road Driving Course
- One Day 4x4 Off-road Health & Safety Course
- 1 Day 4x4 leisure course
4x4 Professional Off-Road Driving Course:
This is a two-day course designed for people operating a 4-wheel drive vehicle in an off-road situation. It is a practical, hands-on driving course conducted on a superbly exacting course where even the most experienced driver will be suitably challenged. Course members learn how to recognize a safe working environment, assess ground conditions, prepare and perform the necessary maintenance checks to ensure the safety of the vehicle, route plan, safely operate a vehicle in a variety of off-road conditions and understand the dangers involved in vehicle recovery. They learn how to get out of difficult situations, read the tract for danger points, and cope with a range of problematic terrain including mud, water, loose surfaces, steep hillsides and very rough roads.
One thing is for certain - the student who completes the course will leave with a great sense of achievement and a lasting knowledge of the control and technique needed for 4x4 vehicles.
4x4 Off-road Health and Safety Introduction Course:
This is a concentrated one-day course which has been designed for those who need a formal industrial Health and Safety qualification for employment, insurance or commercial purposes. The course covers all aspects of practical driving combined with the latest health and safety regulation requirements. It also involves fairly intensive technical training.
1 Day 4x4 Leisure Course.
Covers basic off-road training. The course consists of an introduction to off-road driving, including a safety briefing and a demonstration of the doo’s and don’ts of off-road driving, and some practical driving.
At the end of each course participants should:
- Be familiar with the do’s and don’ts of off-road driving
- Understand the various transmission configurations of 4x4 vehicles and how to use them to best effect.
- Know how to safely drive steep inclines, descents and recover from a failed hill climb
- Be able to safely cross deep gullies.
